Nanoparticles – invisible smartphone protection

The protection of smartphone displays is always important. The conventional method is the surface cover, with plastic foil or tempered glass. Emerged from the necessity to acquire a shield for the display these two systems have dominated the market, each with its advantages and disadvantages.
The efficiency and results of using these two methods for protection are arguable since statistics proved that most of the failures reported refer to damage or even devastation of displays, definitely the most sensitive elements of a phone. Essentially affecting the reliability of phones, the display security problems have generated the need to improve its protection, yet solutions that meet both technical and economic criteria are still expected. It seemed that the macro-molecular properties of known materials did not allow display protection with a reasonable price and without influencing smartphone functionality.
The solution came after research in the micro-molecular field. In this broad research field it was found that very small particles of specific materials, invisible to the naked eye, have different properties from those of materials at macro level. The technology invented on this occasion was called nanotechnology and operates with particles, sizes and tolerances up to 100 nm. Compared to these hair thickness seems huge. The study of properties and behavior of some nano-particle-level materials has revealed extraordinary results with applications in multiple domains. One of the most profitable is that of the coatings, it offers spectacular technical solutions to difficult problems and in addition produces significant savings.
At the level of the enormous budgets invested today in cellular telephony, increasing the reliability of the products by reducing the fault rates is a global importance. Therefore, the possibilities for improving the resistance of telephone displays through nanotechnology have been noticed and supported. With specific research targets funded accordingly, progress in the field has exploded. The discovered solutions resulted in new protection, surprisingly obtained entirely by a process of impregnation at nanoparticle level.
New technology is described as a "lubrication" of the display with a liquid made up of particles invisible to the naked eye. The solution on the screen creates a film of several hundred nanometers (100-400 nm), i.e. 0.0001 – 0.0004 mm, 10,000 times thinner than human hair. Nanoparticles constituting this film diffuse among those of the material forming the screen, impregnating the surface.
This action is not immediate but needs a little time to allow the diffusion of solution all over the surface and allow the originated processes to complete. The result is absolutely surprising, there has been a level of nano-elements coverage that has a hardness located at the top of the Mohs scale, similar with the granite, diamond or sapphire. The obtained surface does not require any other protective coating and the conducted tests revealed a surface very durable against impact. Hammer punches in the phone display, knife scratches, dropping tests, all these proved that the film of nanoparticle fluid provides the display with a protection superior the previous ones.
